NY Times: Still Married, With Children, but in Russian

while living in russia i saw the russian remakes of us-sitcom “the nanny” and thought that they were simply copied without paying copyright to the original producer (something not too uncommon in russia then…). how wrong i was. “the nanny” and also the russian version of “married with children” are licensed remakes: Still Married, With Children, but in Russian. another interesting point the article mentions is that the rise of sitcoms in the last years in russia is linked to an emerging middle class which did not exist in the 1990s (where people preferred to watch / were shown latin american soap operas).
